Seamanship Skills (Part A)

RYA Official Course

The course (4hrs) is aimed at the competent Level 2 sailor. This module concentrates on developing your handling techniques rather than core skills, some of which may require further time and practise to perfect.

You will learn how to reef afloat, recover a man overboard and sail backwards.
These skills are useful if you are planning to sail at the coast or are going to buy your own boat.

During this session (4hrs) you will learn how to deal with adverse circumstances, such as sailing rudderless or without a centre board.  You will also cover all relevant sailing theory and safety considerations, concentrating on increasing self reliance and appropriate decision making.

This clinic (4hrs) is aimed at the competent Level 2 sailor who wants to learn how to sail using a trapeze wire and asymmetric spinnaker.  This clinic is a must for all those wishing to venture into the dynamic and exciting world of performance dinghy sailing!  The session wil be fun yet practical, based purely on coaching and personal development with no assessement involved.

A short dry land simulator session will be followed by a practical session afloat.
  The clinic will cover how to rig, hoist, drop and fly the spinnaker as well as how to recover the spinnaker after capsize.
You will also learn how to: wear and use a trapeze harness correctly, adjust the trapeze wire, hook in and out of the harness and maintain control whilst out on the wire.
All relevant sailing theory and safety considerations will be covered when appropriate.
