which hopefully will entice you on to a Start
Kayaking/Canoeing course. And as an additional incentive

will provide you with 1 Star certification.

Our Start Kayak course (2 x 4hrs Sat & Sun) combines
the 'Intro to' and 'Paddle with Confidence' sessions
and is based on the tried and tested BCU 1 Star syllabus.
You will spend most of your time afloat receiving on-water
coaching with boat handling practice, safety considerations
and some basic theory.
You will
be amazed to find that by the end of the two days you
will have the skills to paddle your boat in all directions
with some degree of confidence.
If it is felt
that more tuitio time is required you will be invited
back on the next suitable Sunday, absolutely free of
charge. We guarantee success!

If you want
to take up the challenge and are serious about learning
to kayak or canoe then this is the course for you! The
Fast Track Package is designed to get you to a confident
and competent standard as quickly as possible.
You will first do our Start
Kayak (BCU 1 Star) course which will cover all
the basic boat handling skills and safety issues
that you need to know. If it is felt that more tuition
time is required you will be invited back on the
next suitable Sunday, free of charge, we guarantee
success!
You will be able to fine-tune those new skills
and build up your confidence at your own pace with
your free Hire Card. Safety cover is always at hand
and instructors will be around to help and assist
you.
When you complete your hire card you will be ready
to attend our Kayak
Improver (BCU 2 Star) course which will introduce
you to more intricate boat handling skills, support
strokes, and improved safety and rescue techniques.
In addition you will be taken out onto the River
Thames to improve on these skills in a more challenging
environment. The aim is to build your paddling
confidence and experience to encourage you to get
out on the water in different locations and maybe
join in some of our longer river trips.
After you finish the course you will be confident
and knowledgeable enough to paddle safely, (within
your limitations), and without the need of safety
cover on placid water. You may choose to continue
paddling with us at the Lake, or to continue developing
your skills and experience, either by joining a
local Canoe Club or by attending further courses
at centres that specialise in introducing people
to white water or sea paddling.
