Aimed at anyone who has undertaken a BCU 1* course or can paddle confidently on flat water and wants to learn new skills and improve their range of boat handling, safety and rescue techniques our BCU 2* improver course will take you to the next level as well as introducing you to the thrill of river paddling on the River Thames.

'Improve Stroke Skills'

BCU 2 Star (Part C)

Price: £75.00


This course is aimed at those who want to develop their skills further and start to consider paddling in more challenging situations.

The session will be aimed at improving your forward and backward paddling, turning, ruddering and draw stroke techniques.
You will be introduced to support strokes and deep water rescue.

'Intro to River Paddling' -

This session, as the name suggests, will allow you to put all the skills you have learnt on the Lake into practise on the River Thames. 

You will also cover what considerations you need to take regarding safety on the river as well as what aspects you need to be aware of when paddling on flowing water.

BCU 2-Star (Parts C & D)

This Improver course is run over the weekend and broken into 2 x 4 hours sessions.

With the emphasis on personal coaching to improve skills specific to your individual needs this course should be regarded as an introduction to new skills, some of which may require further time and practice to perfect.

In the first session you will be given tuition to improve your forward and backward paddling, turning, ruddering and draw stroke techniques.
You will also be introduced to support strokes and deep water rescues.
Basic rolling techniques can be introduced for those of you that would like to have a go.
During the course you will be taken out on the River Thames where you will practise your skills whilst paddling up or down the River (depending on wind direction and strength of current!).
Time will be spent on setting up and tuning performance equipment. Time will also be given to those interested in purchasing their own equipment.
