This is the first half of the Start Kayak/Canoe course which covers:

• Basics of launching and landing
• Paddling forwards
• How to steer, turn and stop

If you enjoy yourself, and to want to continue paddling, sign up for Part B and you will have gained all the skills necessary to paddle on placid waters.

This course is ideal if you've already tried a bit of kayaking or canoeing and simply want to attain the 1 star level.

• You will develop your paddling strokes
• You will improve your boat handling skills
• You will be taught how prevent capsize

By the end of the session you will be paddling in all directions with confidence.

This course is an excellent starting point for the complete beginner and will provide you witht the perfect introduction into a diverse water sport.  Most of the tuition will on-water where you will quickly learn the basics of paddling, including:

• Launching and landing
• Steering, turning and stopping
• Introduction to various stroke techniques
• Capsize prevention
• Complimentary 2 hours free hire on successful completion

On completion of the course, the BCU 1 Star certificate will enable you to paddle on placid water with confidence.  If you are keen to learn how to paddle on moving water you will need to go on to complete the intermediate course, or why not sign up for the full Fast Track package.
