This course will give you a great introduction to the exciting sport of sailing. Much of the time is spent on water learning the basic techniques, time will also be set aside to cover the necessary theory and safety considerations.

• You will learn how to sail across the wind
• You will learn how to tack and gybe, as well as negotiate a simple course
• Through a variety of games and fun exercises your sailing technique will develop throughout the course
• On successful completion of the Stage 2 certificate you will be competent enough to sail under supervision at Bray Lake

This course runs throughout the school holidays and selected weekends in the year.

Building upon the skills learnt on the Start Dinghy Sailing course you will progress through to the next stages, so that ultimately you will be skilful and confident enough to sail independently in light winds.  During the course you will:

• Re-cap and develop existing sailing skills
• Start to learn techniques
• Cover all the necessary theory and safety considerations.

Some of the new skills do require a fair amount of practise to perfect so you may need a bit more time to complete all the stages. To keep moving your skills forward get involved with the After School Club and we'll help you achieve your goals.

The coaching week is aimed at dinghy sailors who hold their RYA Stage 3 certificate. The emphasis of the week will be about consolidating knowledge whilst getting the most fun out of your sailing.

Sessions will be suited to both the ability of those on the course as well as weather conditions.

The coaching week only runs during school holidays. The following gives you a flavour of what the coaching week is all about.

• You will be introduced to more advanced sailing techniques such as using a spinnaker and anchoring
• You will be introduced to seamanship skills
• There will be time spent crewing and helming double handers
• Time will be devoted to getting a flavour of the exciting world of competitive racing, which will set you up for our racing sessions

The great thing about the coaching week, is that you can repeat it as often as you like, and each time you will learn something new and your sailing skills will just get better and better.
