It is important to remember that all instructor candidates require a good level of personal sailing skills and background knowledge before undertaking the course.

The minimum age for those wanting to do an instructors course is 16. For those under 16 and still keen to become an instructor the best route is our Assistant Instructor course.

If you need any assistance or advice regarding these requirements prior to the course, please contact the Centre and we will be pleased to help (discounts are available on all pre-requisite courses when booked in addition to an instructor course).

The course runs over 5 full days.
This is a professional qualification. Training will be a mixture of land based simulator and theory work along with on water practical sessions.
You will learn new skills and be expected to give short presentations to prove you have both the skills and background knowledge required by an RYA Instructor.
You will be taught how to teach windsurfing to both adults and children and how to improve technique via coaching.
The course will also look at aspects of course management, group control, equipment innovations and industry initiatives.
Assessment is continuous through out the week and concluded with a final day assessment.
