It may well be cooler, the evenings darker, the skies greyer, but it doesn’t seem to stop the Bray Lake SUPers with plenty of you still getting out on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings during our club sessions.
We are now over half way through our winter race series with just two races remaining. The race in January was held in challenging windy conditions as the racers took on a technical race. Paddlers were pushed to their limits battling against the wind and each other so congratulations to everyone who took part in the race and all the winners. We will forecast better conditions for the remaining races.
It is not too late to take part in this race series and it doesn’t matter what your level of experience is, everyone is welcome. Our club races have a friendly atmosphere and are a great way to get into paddleboard racing. There is the option of our novice fleet for first timers or the main race fleet for the seasoned pros. Our final two races are on the below dates,
- 10th February 2019
- 10th March 2019
All the details can be found on our Facebook event pages alongside the link to register.
Head of the Dart Challenge
Each April the Bray Lake SUPers descend on sunny South Devon to take part in this great paddleboard challenge. This 14km adventure race takes place between Totnes and Dartmouth with the route reversing each year. This is the most popular event for our paddlers outside of our club races and providers the perfect training target through the winter months.
Training has now begun with paddlers getting onto the water regularly to start increasing their distance. Our Sunday morning SUP Club sessions are now dedicated to HOTD training. We will have training plans, advice on equipment, nutrition and race details. We are also going to do a race simulation paddle to make sure that everyone is happy with the distance and their set up.
To join in the training speak to Kit at our SUP Club, Sunday, 10am – 12pm.
If this is not your thing fear not, you are more than welcome to come down for a paddle at your own pace and do your own thing and coaching and advice is always available.
